Gemini Made the PDF. Now You Can Fix It in the Same Chat.
Google added in-chat previews and editing for files Gemini creates. It saves a few annoying steps, provided you know which files work on your phone.
Gemini could already make you a PDF. The annoying part came next: spotting one wrong sentence, downloading the file, and opening something else just to fix it.
On October 29, Google announced that you can preview and edit files Gemini creates without leaving the chat. You can open the file full-screen, change text yourself, select text to ask about it, or tell Gemini what to revise.
That’s the improvement. File creation isn’t new; Google announced that in April. This update is about being able to look at what Gemini made and correct it before you take it elsewhere.
Say you ask Gemini to make a PDF study guide. Open the preview, notice that a heading is confusing, and change it there. Or ask Gemini to rewrite that section. You still need to read the result. An easier editing tool doesn’t make an AI-written fact correct.
There’s also a device catch. PDF preview and editing work on the web and mobile. For the other formats Google lists, including documents, presentations, and spreadsheets, preview and editing work on the web only. So if you’re trying to tidy up a presentation on your phone, this announcement isn’t the solution you might think it is.
Google says the feature is available now to people with access to the Gemini app in supported languages, including personal Google accounts, Workspace Individual subscribers, and Google Workspace customers. Its Workspace update does not specify a paid-plan requirement for the editing feature. Work and school access can still depend on account and administrator settings, and that’s not a promise of unlimited use.
One more distinction: Google describes editing files created in Gemini chats. This announcement does not establish that Gemini is now a general-purpose editor for every PDF you upload.
Useful? Yes. It removes a small but irritating detour when Gemini makes a file that’s almost right. Just don’t confuse “I can fix this before downloading it” with “Gemini checked it for me.”
